All Bucc Booster Meetings are held at 7:00pm on the last Wednesday of the month at the End Zone Hall. To become a member you may download the membership form and mail it in with your payment to the address provided on the form.
The high school and junior high wrestling programs had a big weekend as the varsity placed 5th at the LCC Invitational and the junior high had five individual placers at the Beavercreek Middle School Classic.
Deacon Shield was one of a school-record 9 placers at the LCC Invitational.

LCC Invitational – Day 1
Friday, January 24, 2020
Covington put in a strong performance in the opening rounds of the Lima Central Catholic (LCC) Invitational on Friday, finishing the first day in 5th place out of 41 teams, and advanced 11 wrestlers to the second day of the tournament, including 8 wrestlers in the quarterfinals.

Cael Vanderhorst (120 lbs) advanced to the quarterfinals with a bye and a 16-0 technical fall victory over Columbus Grove’s Trever Wynkoop, while Kellan Anderson (126) advanced with an 8-1 decision over Patrick Henry’s Lee Borders and a 16-0 technical fall over Blanchester’s Nick Musselman.

Austin Flick (145) earned a pair of pins over Carlisle’s Colby Millard and Cory-Rawson’s Cale Parkins, while Deacon Shields (152) advanced with a bye and a pin over Northridge’s Harper Huling. Jensen Wagoner (160) earned a pair of pins over Otsego’s Ivan Armas and Pandora-Gilboa’s Mitchell Blank.

Trentin Alexander (170) advanced with a bye and a pin over Madeira’s Aidan Reed, while Duncan Cooper (182) had a bye and a 12-3 major decision victory over Crestview’s Aidan Godsey. Jesse Fisher (220) was the Covington’s final quarterfinalist, advancing with a bye and a pin over Southeastern’s Brady Spears.

Connor Sindelir (138) dropped an 8-2 decision to top-seed Mason Glaze of Eastwood, before rebounding with a pin over Greeneview’s Payden Kibble. Brian Morrison (113) won an 8-0 major decision over New London’s Wyatt Harrison in the second consolation round, while Dalton Bishop (106) advanced in that round with a bye. Scott Blumenstock (285) dropped his two bouts.

Wrestling resumes at 9:30 am.

Beavercreek Middle School Classic

Covington’s Jr. High team finished the first day of the Beavercreek Middle School classic in 8th place out of 24 teams.

Carson Taylor (80 lbs) advanced to the semifinals with a 17-5 technical fall victory over Kettering’s Toby Deglow, after earning a bye and a pin over Tippecanoe’s Riley Hull. Michael Hagan (92) also advanced with a bye, a pin over Miamisburg’s Cole Paulin and a pin over Beavercreek’s Cameron Kuba.

Jericho Quinter (104) moved on to the semifinals with a technical fall over Miamisburg’s Lincoln Krull, a pin over East Clinton’s Ethan Shephard and a pin over Beavercreek’s Elijah Papalios. Chase Vanderhorst (110) joined him with three consecutive pins over Vandalia-Butler’s Derek Hobbs, Kettering’s Caden Hurst and Centerville’s A.J. Aguilar.

Izaiah Sherman (150) advanced to the quarterfinals with consecutive pins over Miami Trace’s Ethynn Monro and Miamisburg’s Logan Rinehart, while Kacyn Hall (86, pin), Kaden Thompson (110) and A.J. Garman (122) are still alive in the consolation rounds. Also wrestling well for the Buccs were Jack Blumenstock (104), Aveyen Meek (116), Jesse Harrison (116) and Ashtin Gardner (172).

LCC Invitational – Day 2
Saturday, January 25, 2020
Covington wrestled a great tournament at the Lima Central Catholic (LCC) Invitational this weekend, finishing in 5th place out of 41 schools. Waynedale won the event, followed by Allen East. While it wasn’t the Buccs highest team finish at LCC, the team did set a school-record with 9 individual placers at the tournament.

Cael Vanderhorst led the way for Covington with a 2nd place finish at 120 lbs, after dropping an 8-3 decision to state placer Jake Manley of Otsego in the finals. Vanderhorst won by forfeit over Miami East’s Max Shore in the semifinals, after pinning Waynedale’s state placer Seth Unkefer in the quarterfinals.

Kellan Anderson (126) dropped a 6-2 decision to Wayne Trace’s Hunter Long to take 4th place. Anderson defeated Miami East’s Garrett Kowalak, 8-2, in the quarterfinals before falling to Allen East’s Drake Carmean in the semifinals, then rebounding with a 7-1 victory over Carey’s Reece Mullholand in the consolation semifinals.

Duncan Cooper placed 5th at 182 lbs. with a win by forfeit over Miami East’s Jarrett Winner in the finals. Cooper won an 11-2 decision over Caleb Stammen, and a 10-0 decision over Carey’s Tanner May, before falling to Swanton’s Ian Saunders in the consolation semifinals.

Connor Sindelir (138) and Jensen Wagoner (160) both placed 6th for the Buccs. Sindelir reeled off 4 straight wins in the consolations but dropped his final bout, 12-3, to Waynedale’s Mason Glaze, while Wagoner advanced to the semifinals with a pin over Greenview’s Caleb Allen, before dropping his final bout, 14-2, to Blanchester’s Gage Huston.

Austin Flick (145) and Trentin Alexander (170) both picked up two more victories on day 2 to finish in 7th place, while Deacon Shields (152) and Jesse Fisher (220) each earned another victory to place 8th overall. Dalton Bishop (106) and Brian Morrison (113) made it to the second day of wrestling but fell short of placing.

Vandalia-Butler JV Invitational

Covington’s JV wrestling team finished in 7th place out of 23 teams at the Vandalia-Butler JV Invitational on Saturday. The Buccs had 5 placers at the tournament.

Bryce Smith (160) and Ricky Stephan (220) each placed 2nd, both with 3-1 records with 2 pins, while Banks Koffer (120) and Dylan Staudt (220) placed 3rd with 4-1 records and 2 pins each. David Robinson placed 4th with a 4-1 record and 2 pins, as he was unable to wrestle for 3rd place due to the 5-match limit.

Tanner Garrett (126), Aaron Jackson (126, pin), Kaden Hughes (138), Caleb Miller (145, 2 pins), Trey Kiser (160, pin), Corey Turner (195, pin), Devin Newhouse and Adam Brewer (220) also wrestled well for the Buccs.

Beavercreek Middle School Classic – Day 2
Saturday, January 25, 2020
Covington’s Jr. High team put in an outstanding performance at the Beavercreek Middle School Classic, finishing in 7th place out of 25 teams with 5 individual placers, including 4 champions. Marysville won the event, followed by Miamisburg.

Carson Taylor was tournament champion at 80 lbs. with a 19-2 technical fall victory over Miamisburg’s Elijah Dorsey in the finals. Taylor pinned Miami Trace’s Spencer Smith in the semifinals and went 4-0 overall with 3 pins.

Jericho Quinter placed 1st at 104 lbs. with a 4-0 victory over Graham’s Bryce Kohler. Quinter pinned Northmont’s Noah Allen in the semifinals and finished 5-0 overall with 3 pins.

Chase Vanderhorst won the 110 lb. title with a 23 second pin over Northmont’s Henry Pergram in the finals. Vanderhorst pinned Marysville’s Gage Riley in the semifinals and went 5-0 at the tournament with 5 pins.

Izaiah Sherman placed 1st at 150 lbs., pinning Marysville’s Nicholas Johnson in the finals. Sherman avenged an earlier season loss with a 6-2 victory over top seed Ronnie Thomas of Mechanicsburg in the semifinals, and went 5-0 overall with 4 pins.

Michael Hagan finished as runner-up at 92 lbs, after falling to Graham’s Kaleb Morris in the finals, and pinning Tippecanoe’s Riley Nichols in the semifinals. Hagan finished 3-1 overall with 3 pins.

Kacyn Hall (86) fell short of placing with a 2-2 record with 1 pin, while Jack Blumenstock (104), Kaden Thompson (110), Aveyen Meek (116), A.J. Garman (122) and Ashtin Gardner (172) also wrestled well for the Buccs.

Chase Vanderhorst won an individual title at the Beavercreek Middle DSchool Classic.
