1980-81 COVINGTON BUCCANEERS
Tom Barbee took over for Jack Schwamberger as the head wrestling coach in 1980-81 and the Buccs put together a very good season. Covington compiled a 13-2 dual meet record and placed second as a team at the Districts, Sectionals, Covington Invitational and the Tri-Village Invitational. The Buccaneers also place fourth at the Northwestern Invitational and fifth in the Three Rivers Conference Championships.
Overall, the Buccs finished with a 47-14 record for a winning percentage of 77%.
Individually, all five seniors placed at sectionals; Don Emenegger and Kirk Tisdale placed first, Ted Fields was second, Curtis Mohler third and Ben Mutzner was fourth.
The other team members who placed were; Brad Hall (1st), Kent Musgrave (3rd), and Craig Vanderhorst (4th). Placing at the District Tournament were Kent Musgrave (4th), Ted Fields and Curtis Mohler (3rd, Kirk Tisdale (2nd) and District Champions Brad Hall and Don Emenegger. By winning their weight class at Districts, Brad Hall and Don Emmenegger both qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament to become the first teammates in school history to compete at state in the same season.
