The Covington Buccs continued their success of sending wrestlers to the state tournament as junior Rodney Kimmel advanced to state at 132 pounds. Rodney joins his older brother Randy (1978 and 1979) as the first brothers in the history of the program to become state qualifiers.

The Buccs also won their third straight District Championship despite being plagued by injuries. Several back-up wrestlers stepped in and contributed greatly to the team’s success.

Throughout the season the Buccaneers compiled a 9-7 dual meet record, a 50-14 record in tournaments and an overall record of 59-21 for a winning percentage of 74%.


Rodney Kimmel became Covington’s eighth state qualifier in Buccaneer history and joins his brother Randy (1978 & 1979) as the first brothers to make it to state.
