After a retooling season a year ago, the Covington Buccaneers made huge strides in the 1990-91 season as they more than doubled their winning percentage as a team from 22% to 48%. Still filled with a relatively young squad, the Buccaneers compiled a 13-17 dual record, 29-29 tournament record for an overall record of 42-46.

Plus, junior Eric Vanderhorst became the 14 wrestler in the history of the program to qualify for the state tournament, joining his brother Craig (1983 & 1984) as the second set of brother who have represented Covington at state. Along the way Eric won his second straight sectional championship, this year at 171 pounds.

“I am proud of this year’s wrestling team,” commented Schwamberger. “We had twenty people out for the team who fought to win for themselves and for Covington High School. We have several people back for next year’s team. Thanks again men for a great season.”
