Despite having some key wrestlers out of the lineup, the Covington Buccaneers put together an impressive showing in winning the Jimmy Mac Invitational at Bellefontaine on Saturday.
Covington’s high school wrestling team took first place out of nine teams at the Bellefontaine “Jimmy Mac” Invitational on Saturday. The Buccs were short a few wrestlers, but still managed to have eight wrestlers place in the top four, including six individual champions.
Carson Taylor took first at 106 lbs, with a 3-0 record with 3 pins, while Michael Hagan won 113 lbs., with a 3-0 record and 3 pins. Chase Vanderhorst went 5-0 on the day with 5 pins on his way to first place at 132 lbs., while Aveyen Meek took first at 138 lbs, with a 4-0 record with 4 pins.
Connor Sindelir placed first at 157 lbs, with a 4-0 record and 4 pins, while Izaiah Sherman won the 175 lb. weight class with a 4-0 record with 3 pins and a technical fall. Scott Blumenstock took second at 285 lbs., with a 4-1 record and 3 pins, and Caleb Miller (1 pin) placed third at 150 lbs.
Also winning matches and scoring points for the Buccs were Luke Brown (144, pin) and Hayden Barker (220, 2 pins).
Covington competes next at the Versailles Duals on Saturday, Dec. 18.
