TROY – Covington competed in the Troy Invitational on Saturday and finished in 4th place out of 15 teams.  The Buccs finished with one champion, two runners-up, and seven individual placers, and put in a total team effort as all twelve competing wrestlers won matches during the tournament.

Caleb Ryman won the 150 lb. championship with a pin over Troy’s Ethan Kirkpatrick in the finals.  Ryman earned  a 20-3 technical fall victory over Piqua’s Alex Holt in the semfinals, after getting three pins during pool wrestling.

Aveyen Meek (175) and Trentin Havenar (215) both finished in 2nd place at the tournament.  Meek earned two pins in his pool before pinning Centerville’s Alex George in the semifinals.  He then dropped his final bout to Miami East’s KJ Gustin.  Havenar won both of his pool matches before upsetting Fairborn’s Almari Byrd in the semifinals with an 11-4 victory.  He then dropped his finals match to Centerville state qualifier John Moyer.

Brody Taylor (106) placed 3rd, losing to eventual champion Hud Randall of Miami East.  Taylor earned victories by technical fall and pin during pool wrestling, then defeated Brian Fulton by a 17-3 major decision to take third.

Eddie Deaton (113, pin) and Kaden Thompson (165, 3 pins) both placed 5th, while Liam Geeding (144, 3 pins) finished in 6th place.  Also earning victories and scoring valuable team points for the Buccs were Christian Clark (126, pin), Isaiah Mumford (132, pin), Jonny Miller (138, pin), Jack Blumenstock (157, pin) and A.J. Reyes (190, 2 pins).

Covington competes next at the Urbana Invitational on Saturday, January 11.
