Covington finished in fourth place out of 10 teams with 230 points at the Dixie Invitational, missing a third place finish by a single point. The host Greyhounds won the tournament with 305.5 points, followed by runner-up Elder (262.5), and third-place finisher, Mechanicsburg (231).
Ben Adams led the way for the Buccs as he took home the title at 140 lbs. with an array of takedowns on his way to a 17-6 major decision over Zach Zeigler of Mechanicsburg. Three other Covington wrestlers competed for the championship in their respective weight classes, but fell short in their final bouts. Finishing second for the Buccs were Ritchie Watkins (125) who dropped his final match to David Beach of Dixie, Brian Ely (171) who was forced to injury default his match to Seth Curtis of Mechanicsburg, and Logan Brown (189) who fell to Eric Wright of Tri-County North.
At 119 lbs., Mitchell Herron took third with an 18-10 decision over Nick Huffman of Tri-County North. Also placing for the Buccs were C.J. Potter (4th at 215), Ezra Mohler (4th at 275), Brandon Hartzell (5th at 145) and Michael Corkhum (6th at 103).
Covington travels to the Versailles Invitational on Saturday (2/7) for their last tournament before sectionals.
