GREENVILLE – Covington traveled to Greenville to face the host team as well as Troy in a tri meet on Thursday. The Buccs defeated Troy, 45-36, in the first round, while Troy defeated Greenville, 48-27, in round two. Covington then defeated Greenville, 52-30, to improve their dual meet record to 9-3.
Troy started with a 12-0 lead against Covington as Ayden Thompson (215) pinned AJ Garman followed by a Reme Anderson (285) victory by forfeit.
The Buccs knotted things up 12-12 as Eddie Deaton (106) earned a forfeit and Carson Taylor (113) pinned Colton Trochelman. Troy would regain the lead, 18-12, off a TJ Murray (120) pin over Henry Skaggs.
Covington then reeled off four straight victories to lead 36-18 as Jericho Quinter (126) pinned Anden Kemmer, Michael Hagan (132) pinned Aaron Oates, Chase Vanderhorst (138) pinned Ethan Kirkpatrick, and Caleb Ryman (144) pinned Asher Merritt. Troy narrowed the lead, 36-24, as Nathan Brewster (150) pinned Diego Lopez and Brayden Lester (157) pinned Jack Blumenstock.
Covington answered with an Aveyen Meek (165) pin over Logan Westerfield and a key 5-3 victory by Mason Epperson (175) over Owen Zickafoose. Troy then won the remaining bout as Danny Murray (190) pinned A.J. Reyes.
Greenville struck first against Covington as Jack Suter (106) pinned Eddie Deaton before Covington’s Carson Taylor (113) pinned Henry Alread. The teams traded matches again as Greenville’s Ashtin Noggle (120) pinned Henry Skaggs, while Covington’s Jericho Quinter (126) pinned Avery Meade.
The Buccs then reeled off three consecutive victories as Michael Hagan (132) pinned Juan Gutierrez, Chase Vanderhorst (138) pinned Bradley Bush, and Caleb Ryman (144) pinned Layden Wion. Greenville then responded with a William Bush (150) pin over Diego Lopez.
Covington would then win the next four bouts as Jack Blumenstock won 13-2 over Tristan Bey-Russel, Aveyen Meek (165) pinned Hunter Harter, while Mason Epperson (175) and A.J. Reyes (190) picked up forfeits. Greenville’s Anthony Gutierrez (215) and Andrew Winner (285) each earned forfeits to end the dual.
Winning in JV action were Covington’s Jonny Miller (120, pin), Liam Geeding (132, pin), Kaden Thompson (157, pin) and Lucas Lester (165, pin), Troy’s Damon Wiley (138), Jayden Atkinson (138) and Anthony Hurd (150, pin) and Greenville’s Cael Cromwell and Biden Hill (138, pin).
