December 29, 2004 – Vandalia
The Buccs competed in the 44-team Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament and came away with a champion in Logan Brown. Brown went 5-0 with 3 pins on his way to the 189 lb. title. Logan defeated a number of outstanding wrestlers including Northmont’s Drew Michel, a returning state qualifier, by a 9-1 major decision in the semifinals, and Bellbrook’s Jason Cook, a returning state placer, by a 7-5 decision in the finals.
“I think I’m getting better with each match,” said Brown. “The kid I beat in the finals beat Eric Wright (who finished 3rd in the state at 189 lbs. last year) last year so I know I’m improving. I want to keep getting better and hopefully I can get myself into position to challenge for a state title.”
With his outstanding tournament, Brown remains unbeaten on the season with a 23-0 record. Logan is also 1 win away from his 100th career win.
At 171 lbs., Brian Ely also wrestled very well as he finished up with a 4-2 record with 3 pins and a major decision. Ely was a match away from placing, but had to withdraw from competition due an injury received in his final match. Other wrestlers winning at least one match during the highly competitive tournament were Ryan White at 130 lbs., Logan Hall at 145 lbs. and Ryan Vanderhorst at 160 lbs.
The Buccs will be competing next at the Troy Invitational on Friday, Jan. 7, and Saturday, Jan. 8.
