2007-08: BUCCS IMPROVE TO 10-0 IN DUALS

The Covington high school wrestling team hosted the Mechanicsburg Indians and the Lehman Cavaliers in a tri meet Wednesday night and remained undefeated on the season in dual meets. The Buccs defeated Lehman, 66-18, and Mechanicsburg, 51-21, to improve their dual meet record to 10-0.

Going 2-0 for Covington were Zach Shilt (103 lbs), Matt Breisch (112), Sam Herron (119), Andrew DeHart (130, 1 tech. fall), Josh McMillion (140, 1 pin), Aaron Devenport (145, 1 pin, 1 tech. fall) and Logan Hall (171, 1 pin).

Finishing 1-1 were Tyler Tebbe (125), Cory Ely (135), Justin McMillion (152), Jake Jennings (160), Steven Ray (215) and Charlie Bruyere (285). Freshman Joe Evans also saw his first action of the season wrestling up at 189 lbs. Evans dropped a heartbreaking match to Mechanicsburg’s Keith Hurst in overtime 6-4.

The jr. high squad wrestled hard and won a tight one, 40-36, over Mechanicsburg. Winning matches for the Buccs were Brock Smith (80 lbs, pin), Tres Wirt (98), Jacob Sowers (104), Kyler Deeter (110), Alex Bitner (116), Jordan McIntosh (122) and Brian Olson (128). Also competing for the Buccs were Justin Millhouse (86), Jonathan Unger (92), Cody Minnich (160) and Jamie Hess (205).

The high school squad will be competing next at the 45-team GMVWA Holiday tournament at Vandalia-Butler on Friday and Saturday, December 28-29, while the jr. high team doesn’t compete again until January.

A large crowd was in attendance on Wednesday.
