BUCCS SPLIT DUALS IN OHSWCA REGIONAL

VERSAILLES – The Covington Buccaneers put together a quality performance in the OHSWCA Regional Duals at Versailles by splitting head-to-head matchups against two teams, Preble Shawnee and Versailles.

In the first dual competition, the Buccaneers defeated Preble Shawnee 57-16. The Buccaneers only lost one match in this dual as 12 of the points compiled by Preble Shawnee were due to two forfeits by Covington.

The first match was a 2:59 pin victory by Trenton Havenar over Ryder Taylor in the 285 pound weight class. Havenar moved up in this match from his 215 pound weight class.

Both teams forfeited the 106 pound weight class and Brody Taylor moved up to the 113 pound weight class for Covington. After trailing 11-0, Brody Taylor recorded a 2:46 pin against Sam Million.

Preble Shawnee won the next match, but Covington responded with two consecutive pins by Henry Skaggs at 126 pounds and Jonny Miller at 132 pounds. After Weston Roth received a forfeit at 138 pounds, Gavin Brown captured a 12-7 win at 144 pounds and Liam Geeding recorded a victory with a pin at 150 pounds.

Cutler Robbins received a forfeit at 157 pounds and Caleb Ryman moved up from 157 to the 165 pound weight class. Ryman picked up a quick 8 second pin victory over Austin Albright, which was the sixth quickest pin in Buccaneer history.

The final three weight classes were forfeits, one by Preble Shawnee and two by Covington.

In the next dual against Versailles, the Buccaneers lost 55-18, but won four critical matches against a very good team.

Henry Skaggs captured a win with a 1:55 pin over Jace Bergman at 126 pounds and Jonny Miller followed up with an impressive 8-5 victory over Sam DeLand at 132 pounds.

The two more wins for Covington were an 18-1 technical fall victory for Caleb Ryman over Hank Smith and a 13-2 major decision victory by Trenton Havenar against Adam Brandt in the 215 pound weight class.

Overall, 24 of the points accumulated by Versailles were due to forfeits in four weight classes by Covington – 106, 113, 190 and 285.

Next up for the Buccaneers is a dual against Piqua at home on Tuesday. This night will honor the seniors on “Senior Night”.

WOWL REGIONAL MEET – February 1st, 2026
Covington travelled to Tipp City for the Western Ohio Wrestling League (WOWL) Regional meet on Sunday.  This event used an 8-person double-elimination format and included Anna, Arcanum, Bethel, Miami East, Minster, Sidney, Tipp City and Troy.

Finalists included first-place champions Oliver Ouellette, Lyam Davis, Everett McCord, and second place runner-up Cole Reynolds.

Consolation finalists included third place finishers Ethan Owens, Connor Clark, Caroline Koogler, and fourth place finishers Carter Roth, Emmitt Everett, Grayson Sowers and Rowan Brant.

Placing fifth were Emmett Clark, Jason Richmond, Kyndrick Campbell, Brayden Barnett, Brysen Cline and Braxton Sowers, while Issac Godsey, Ayden Cheatle, Becket Garber and Dawson Gibson placed seventh.

Each of the kids gained valuable experience and represented Covington well. The Buccs compete next at a WOWL make-up meet on Sunday, Feb. 8.

Covington’s Holden Miller competed in the separate Ohio Athletic Conference District Tournament at Graham and advanced to the semifinals with two pins, ultimately finishing in 6th place as a State Alternate.
