2013-14: SHORT HANDED BUCCS WIN VERSAILLES INVITE

DECEMBER 14, 2013 – VERSAILLES
The Covington high school wrestling team competed at the seven-team Versailles invitational on Saturday and came home with the championship, winning all five of their duals to improve their overall dual meet record to 12-0. Versailles finished in second place, followed by Beavercreek.

The Buccs were short-handed as they had a couple wrestlers out due to ACT testing and other issues that forced a few more wrestlers to sit out as observers, but opened with a solid 49-21 victory over Lehman.

Covington followed with a 48-22 victory over Tri-County North before edging Beavercreek, 36-34. The Buccs got a couple wrestlers back before facing Versailles, winning 40-32, then concluded the day with a 45-24 victory over Tipp City.

Going undefeated with 5-0 records were Connor Ryan (106 lbs, 5-0, pin), Ryan Ford (132, 3 pins), Lance Miller (138, 3 pins) and Brandon Magee (170, 1 pin).

Freshman Branden Robinson (126) and junior Ben Miller (182, 2 pins) both finished 4-1 overall.

Going 3-2 for Covington were Coleman Ryan (113, pin), Justin Daniel (220, 2 pins) and Jordan Wolfe (285, 2 pins). Both Daniel Jennings (160, pin) and A.J. Ouellette (195) each split their matches 1-1.

Ross Bowman (145) and Josh Sowers (126) both picked up pins for the Buccs, while Jacob Buchanan (126), Michael Cox (132), Logan Fields (152), Luke Grieshop (285) and Carl Lankford (285) also competed for Covington.

The Buccs travel to Brookville on Tuesday, Dec. 17, for a tri with the Blue Devils and Mechanicsburg at 5:30 pm.
