2015-16: BUCCS COME UP SHORT IN DUAL WITH TIGERS

Covington and Versailles battled in an exciting dual on Tuesday night, with the Tigers coming out on top, 35-22. State qualifier Lance Miller (160) started things off for the Buccs with a 16-4 major decision over district placer Corey Dieringer, before Jonathan Moorman won a 7-3 decision over Covington’s Deron White (152). Versailles’ Bo Bey then earned a pin over Joey Schmelzer at 182 lbs.

Brandon Magee (195) then picked up an 11-2 major decision for the Buccs over Jacob Rismiller, before the Tigers would pick up victories by Kyle Gigandet (220), Jeffrey Ware (285) and Jocob Poling (106) over Bryce Keiser, Seth Thomas and Alexis Roth, respectively.

Covington’s Connor Ryan (113) then earned a 14-4 major decision over Marcus Marshall, before Versailles’ Preston Platfoot fought to a close 7-5 victory over Coleman Ryan (120). The Buccs would counter as Jared Ford earned a solid 6-0 victory over Steven Mangen. The Tigers then responded with a a hard-fought victory as Kyle Wuebker edged Keringten Martin (132), 6-4.

The highlight match of the night followed as Covington’s state placer Ryan Ford (138) squared off against Versailles’ state alternate Tanner Bey. Ford would go on to win a 13-5 major decision. The teams then traded the last two bouts as Covington’s Josh Sowers (145) defeated Tyler Gigandet, 6-1, before Gage DeHart (152) fell to Versailles’ Nathan Henry. Covington’s Brandon Robinson (152) and Ross Bowman (160) also picked up wins in exhibition bouts.
