2017-18: Buccs Have A Big Day At Troy

JANUARY 6, 2018 – TROY
Covington put together a strong performance at the Troy Invitational on Saturday, finishing in second place out of 14 teams. In all, the Buccs had 10 wrestlers place in the top-six at the event.

Kellan Anderson (106) and Cael Vanderhorst (113) both finished on top of the podium, winning their respective weight classes. Anderson defeated Miami East’s Olivia Shore, 5-4, in the finals and went 5-0 overall with 3 pins. Vanderhorst earned a pin over Coldwater’s Brian Chmielewski in the finals, finishing 5-0 with 4 pins on the day.

Keringten Martin (152) and Gavin McReynolds (182) each took 3rd place. Martin earned a 12-4 major decision over Arcanum’s Dylan Burns in the finals, finishing 4-1 overall with 2 pins. McReynolds defeated Delphos St. John’s Justin Wieging, 6-0, earning one pin on his way to a 4-1 record.

Austin Flick (138), Trentin Alexander (160) and Hunter Clarkson (170) each finished in 4th place. Flick earned 2 pins on the day, while Alexander and Clarkson each picked up one pin amongst their wins.

Taylen Viney (120) took 5th place, while Riley Richards (126, 1 pin) and Dylan Staudt (220, 1 pin) each took 6th place. David Robinson (126), Logan Lowe (132), Bryce Smith (138), Fletcher Metz (145), Deacon Shields (145), Seth Iddings (160), Bryce Keiser (285), Wyatt Phipps (285) and Clayton Stephan (285) all competed well for the Buccs. Stephan finished with 2 pins on the day.
