2018-19: BUCCS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AT WAYNE

Jensen Wagoner locks up a pin.

FEBRUARY 6, 2019 – HUBER HEIGHTS
With the originally schedule dual against Brookville being cancelled, Covington traveled to Huber Heights Wayne for a double dual hosted by the Wayne Warriors. Unfortunately the Buccaneers never had the opportunity to compete against Wayne, but Covington did defeat Greenfield McClain and Trotwood-Madison to improve their dual meet record to 20-4.

The Buccaneers bested with McClain, 37-27, and Trotwood-Madison, 54-24. In the other duals, McClain defeated Wayne, while Wayne defeated Trotwood-Madison.

In the opener against McClain, Cael Vanderhorst (120), Riley Richards (132), Caleb Miller (138), Keringten Martin (152), Jesse Fisher (195) and Dylan Staudt (285) all picked up wins for the Buccs. The biggest win came from Dylan Staudt, who bumped up from 220 pounds to heavyweight and recorded a match-sealing victory via pin.

Covington then faced Trotwood-Madison, who fielded a limited roster of wrestlers.

Still, Covington was impressive as Cael Vanderhorst (113), Connor Sindelir (126), Riley Richards (132), Jensen Wagoner (145), Keringten Martin (152), Dylan Burns (160), Bryce Smith (170), Gavin McReynolds (182), Jesse Fisher (195) and Dylan Stuadt (220) all recorded victories against the Rams.

In JV action, Ricky Stephan (182, pin) and Scott Blumenstock (285) both won their matches. Tyler Bauer (152) and Clayton Stephan (285) also wrestled well for the Buccs.

The Buccs host the Covington Duals this Saturday, February 9, which includes the Cross County Conference wrestling teams, plus Lehman. Wrestling starts at 10 am.

Tyler Bauer finishes a takedown move on Wednesday.
Caleb Miller secures back points on Wednesday at Wayne High School.
