The Covington wrestling team came away with dual victories over Coldwater and Milton-Union on Tuesday – 48-33 over the Cavaliers and 52-27 over the host Bulldogs.
Covington travelled to Milton-Union to face the host Bulldogs, as well as Coldwater and came away with wins over both opponents in competitive duals, defeating Coldwater, 48-33, and Milton-Union, 52-27. In the other dual, Milton-Union defeated Coldwater, 42-39.
Coldwater got off to a strong start against the Buccs, winning the first three contested weights, as Aveyen Meek (150) fell to Sam Obringer, A.J Garman (175) fell to Eddie Cervantes, and Jensen Wagoner (190) lost a close 3-2 decision to Coldwater state placer Caleb Stammen.
Covington’s Hayden Barker (215) responded by pinning Ethan Thomas, before Scott Blumenstock (285) fell to Will Fox. The Buccs would then win four of the next five bouts as Jericho Quinter (113) pinned Tyler Overman and Michael Hagan (120) pinned Austin Hamilton. Chase Vanderhorst (126) then pinned Jordan Houser, before Kaden Thompson (132) fell to Tanner Stammen.
Jackson Shiverdecker (138) concluded the dual with a pin over Ethan Heitkamp. Carson Taylor (106), Jack Blumenstock (144) and Connor Sindelir (157) picked up forfeits for Covington, while Grant Hueing (165) earned a forfeit for Coldwater.
Milton-Union and Covington traded matches at the start of their dual as Luke Brown (150) fell to Nathan Barker, before Connor Sindelir (157) earned an 11-1 decision over former teammate Trey Kiser. A.J. Garman (165) then fell to Cabit Fetters, before Ricky Stephan (215) pinned Evan Cherry. Carson Taylor (106) pinned Nick Butler, before Michael Hagan (120) came out on top with a pin over Payton Mayfield in an exciting match.
Chase Vanderhorst (126) then pinned Andrew Collins, before Kaden Thompson (132) dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Kegan Crow. Jackson Shiverdecker (138) then fell to Zach Avey, before Aveyen Meek (144) concluded the dual with a pin over Sam Zank. Jericho Quinter (113), Jensen Wagoner (190) and Scott Blumenstock (285) earned forfeits for the Covington, while Ian Coffey (165) received a forfeit for Milton-Union.
In Jr. High action, Covington won a close 37-34 decision over Coldwater. Winning for Covington were Jonathan Miller (80), Aubrey Bishop (86), Henry Skaggs (92), Caleb Ryman (116), Mason Epperson (150), Trentin Havenar (205) and A.J. Reyes (245).
The Buccs also defeated Milton-Union, by the score of 72-12. Winning for Covington were Jonny Miller (80), Aubrey Bishop (92), Henry Skaggs (92), Sam Helman (104), Landon Beeman (110), Caleb Ryman (116), Trent Reynolds (122), Elijah Carnes (122), Victor Michaels (134), Aiden Collins (160), Trentin Havenar (172) and A.J. Reyes. Winning for Milton-Union was Seth Lowry (150) and Eli Deeter (205).
