2021-22: SHORT HANDED BUCCS TAKE SECOND

Wrestling without six starters, the Covington wrestling team still managed to put together a strong weekend with a runner-up team finish in the Dayton Christian Invitational.

Despite missing six starters at the event, Covington’s high school wrestling team came away with a second place finish at the 16-team Dayton Christian Invitational on Saturday. Batavia won the tournament, while Greeneview placed third.

The Buccs finished with three individual champions, and six place winners overall.

Carson Taylor won the 106 lb. weight class with a 5-0 record with 5 pins. Michael Hagan (120) also placed first, earning a 4-0 record and 4 pins. Connor Sindelir (165) joined the others atop the podium with a 4-0 record with 3 pins.

Taking runner-up for the Buccs were Scott Blumenstock (285) and Izaiah Sherman (190). Blumenstock finished 3-1 on the day, with 3 pins, while Sherman went 4-1 with 2 pins.

Caleb Miller finished in 4th place with a 3-1 record with 3 pins. Also winning matches for the Buccs were Brian Morrison (126), Luke Brown (150, pin) and Hayden Barker (220, pin).

Covington travels to the Bellefontaine Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11.
