The Covington Buccaneers continue to overcome early season adversity from injuries and illness and Saturday was no different as the Buccs put together a strong showing in finishing fourth at the Versailles Invitational.
Covington’s high school wrestling team took 4th place out of 10 teams at the Versailles Duals on Saturday. The Buccs, short a few wrestlers due to illness, battled to a 3-2 overall record. Covington defeated Kenton Ridge, 61-18, Milton-Union, 42-21, and Arcanum, 72-12, but dropped duals to Versailles, 51-27, and Brookville, 40-38.
Going undefeated through all of the duals were Carson Taylor (106 lbs., 6-0, 2 pins), Michael Hagan (113, 5-0, 1 pin), Jericho Quinter (120, 6-0, 4 pins) and Chase Vanderhorst (132, 6-0, 4 pins). Finishing 4-1 were Connor Sindelir (157, 4 pins) and Scott Blumenstock (285). Hayden Barker (215, 1 pin) went 4-2, while Caleb Miller (150, 1 pin) went 3-2.
Unable to compete in all the duals, but finishing without a loss were Jensen Wagoner (190, 4-0, 1 pin), Izaiah Sherman (175, 3-0, 1 pin) and Brian Morrison (126, 2-0). Also competing well for the Buccs were Jack Blumenstock (138), Kaden Thompson (138, pin), Aveyen Meek (144, pin), A.J. Garman (165), Zeb Woodward-Roeth (215, 2 pins) and Ashtin Gardner (215, pin).
Covington competes next at Sidney on Wednesday, Dec. 22 in a tri meet with Sidney and Allen East.
