2022-23: BUCCS GO 1-1 AT OHSWCA DISTRICT DUALS

VERSAILLES – Wrestling without a full lineup, the Covington Buccaneers managed to go 1-1 in the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association District Duals at Versailles High School on Saturday to make their current dual meet record 9-4.

The Buccs opened against Brookville, who fielded a complete lineup of wrestlers in each weight class. Covington was forced to forfeit four weight classes, which gave Brookville a 24-point advantage off the bat.

Of the ten matches wrestled, Covington won five matches, three by pin and two by decision, while Brookville won five matches, all by pin.

The three pins for the Buccaneers came from Michael Hagan over Khadyn Jones in 37 seconds at 120 pounds, Chase Vanderhorst over Logan Jones in 1:50 at 132 pounds and freshman Caleb Ryman over Damien Mohler in 2:06 at 132 pounds. Carson Taylor defeated Hayden Jones by a narrow 3-2 decision at 106 pounds and Jericho Quinter defeated Tanner Sampson 11-4 at 126 pounds.

The Buccaneers then faced Wayne Trace in the Consolation Round and won by the margin of 57-18. Wayne Trace was in the same situation as Covington as it didn’t have a full lineup either.

In head-to-head action Covington won three matches and Wayne Trace won three.

Carson Taylor pinned Arin James in 1:50 at 106 pounds and Aveyen Meek pined Connor Sensibaugh in 1:59 at 150 pounds. Michael Hagan earned a 4-3 decision over highly ranked Corbin Kimmel at 120 pounds. Earning forfeit victories were Brian Morrison (113), Jericho Quinter (126), Chase Vanderhorst (132), Caleb Ryman (138), Mason Epperson (157), Zane Lemp (190) and A.J. Reyes (215).

Covington hosts Milton-Union and Coldwater in tri meet on Tuesday, February 7.

Greenville JV Tournament

Covington’s JV team travelled to the Greenville JV tournament on Saturday and came away with four placers. Christian Clark (113) and Zeb Woodward-Roeth (215) both finished in 2nd place, while Kaden Thompson (150) placed 3rd, and Andrew Basye (120) placed 4th.

Clark went 4-1 on the day with 4 pins, while Woodward-Roeth finished 3-1 with 3 pins. Thompson finished with 3 wins and a pin, while Basye earned 2 wins and a pin.
