2022-23: BUCCS TAKE RUNNER-UP IN THE TRC

CASSTOWN – Despite missing a few wrestlers, the Covington Buccaneers were able to put forth a great effort in the Three Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday by taking runner-up as a team with 169.5 points. Miami East won the league title with 179.5 team points.

Overall, the Buccaneers had four wrestlers claim individual titles, Michael Hagan (120), Chase Vanderhorst (132), Caleb Ryman (138) and Zeb Woodward-Roeth (215). Carson Taylor (106) finished runner-up, while Christian Clark (113), Andrew Basye (126), Luke Brown (144), Aveyen Meek (150), Jack Blumenstock (165), and Allen Garman (175) finished third. Freshman Mason Epperson finished fourth in a very tough 157 pound weight class.

At 120 pounds, Michael Hagan advanced to the finals with a 1:24 pin of Jacob Lightner of Milton-Union and then defeated Gabe Cole of Miami East by 1:20 pin in the championship match.

Chase Vanderhorst was equally impressive as he pinned Dalton Davis of Troy Christian in 1:36, pinned Kegan Crow of Milton-Union in 2:46 and then pinned Garrett Fine in 1:48 to claim his championship at 132 pounds.

Freshman Caleb Ryman won via technical fall 16-1 over Quinn Bostic of Troy Christian and won the 138 pound championship with a 1:24 pin of Gunner Weldy of Miami East.

Sophomore Zeb Woodward-Roeth advanced to the finals at 215 pounds and pinned Austin Workman of Miami East in 19 seconds to claim his individual championship.

Carson Taylor advanced to the finals at 106 pounds with a 1:08 pin of Miami East’s Brian Fulton, but dropped a hard-fought battle to Kyle Schroer on Troy Christian, 8-3.

Overall, it was a great performance by the Buccaneers despite missing key wrestlers Brian Morrison (113 pounds), Jericho Quinter (126 pounds), and A.J. Reyes (215 pounds).

JH BUCCS FINISH SECOND IN TRC
The Covington junior high wrestling team finished second behind Miami East in the TRC Championships at Miami East High School on Saturday. The Buccs finished with 130 team points, while Miami East tallied 164 team points.

Winning individual championships for the Buccaneers were Brody Taylor at 80 pounds and Henry Skaggs at 110 pounds. Finishing runner-up were Eddie Deaton (98), Jonny Miller (104), Liam Geeding (116), Trent Reynolds (134), Talon Pergram (142), and Lucas Lester (160). Landon Beeman finished third at 128 pounds.
