1977-78 COVINGTON BUCCANEERS
History was made in the 1977-78 wrestling season as junior Randy Kimmel became the first wrestler in Buccaneer history to qualify for the state wrestling meet. He made it to state by winning a district championship in the 155 pound weight class. Randy’s success carries on the legacy of his older brother Rusty, who finished his senior season with a program-best 21-1 record two years ago.
As a team, the Buccaneers finished with a 4-3 record in duals and a 17-21 record in tournament action for an overall record of 21-24. The Buccs finished seventh in the Northeastern Invitational, second in the Covington Invitational, seventh in the Miami East Invitational and sixth in the TRC Championships.
