MECHANICSBURG – Two Covington girls wrestlers, junior Ava Ostrov and freshman Chloe Assuage, performed very well in the High School Girls Heart of Ohio Invite at Mechanicsburg High School on Saturday.
This tournament was loaded with so much talent in girls wrestling and the two Buccaneer wrestlers showcased their overall toughness and how they embrace opportunities to improve their wrestling techniques.
Ava Ostrov opened with a 15-0 technical fall victory over Miya Haynes from Piqua, but dropped two straight matches against Naura Simison from Greenon and Myiah Ankrom from Indian Lake.
Chloe Aselage suffered an unfortunate loss in the first match against Addyson Falvey from Xenia, but rebounded with a 1:31 pin victory over Berkley Brown from Grove City. She wrestled hard, but dropped a close 4-1 loss to Gigi Sheridan from Indian Hill.
Due to their effort, Covington finished 43rd in the team standings with 11.5 points out of 60 teams in the competition. That’s extremely impressive considering Covington had just two wrestlers competing in the tournament.
These two ladies will compete again on February 8th at the Triad Invitational.
