The Covington Buccaneers wrestling team is young with many of the wrestlers to see their best days ahead. Still, the young Buccs have managed to have some success on the mat and show signs of what lies ahead.
The Buccs finished the Lincolnview Invitational wrestling tournament in ninth place out of twelve teams with 108 points overall. They placed five wrestlers in the top five, including a champion at 189 lbs. Sophomore Logan Brown won the 189 lb. championship with a pin in 1:07 over Logan Markware of Van Wert in the finals. Brown finished the day with a 5-0 record with 3 pins and 1 tech. fall.
Senior Ben Adams took 4th in a very tough 140 lb. weight class. Adams finished with a 3-2 record, including a pin and a technical fall.
Sophomore Brian Ely also finished 4th in his weight class. Ely went 3-2 with 1 pin at 171 lbs.
Placing 5th for the Buccs were Ritchie Watkins (2-2, 2 pins) at 125 lbs. and Bobby Wiltshire (2-2, 2 pins) at 135 lbs.
Bluffton took the tournament championship with 270.5 points, followed by Coldwater with 235 points.
The Buccs have two upcoming home meets. The first is this Wednesday, December 17 at 6:00 pm at the high school versus Oakwood and Urbana. Covington then faces Tri-County North and National Trail at 10 am on Saturday, December 20, also at the high school.
