2003-04: Buccs Finish 11th at Ben Logan

Ryan Vanderhorst

Without four of their regular starters, the Buccs struggled to an 11th place finish at the twelve-team invitational.

Ben Logan won the tournament with 342 points followed by runner-up Allen East (172.5) and third-place finisher, Miami East (169).

On this day, most of the close matches seemed to go against the Buccs. This held true in the 189 lb. finals where Logan Brown, after cruising to the championship match, dropped an 8-7 decision to tournament MVP, Ted George, of Rossford, to finish in second place.

Overall, however, Covington managed to finish up the day on a positive note as most of the wrestlers won their final match. Michael Corkhum (103) placed 5th with a pin over Jarred Hostetler of Bellefontaine, as did Ben Adams at 140 lbs., with a 13-9 decision over Dustin Spar of Allen East. Also winning their final bouts to place 7th were Bobby Wiltshire (135), Brian Ely (171), C.J. Potter (215), and Ezra Mohler (275).

The Buccs hope to rebound at the Dixie Invitational this Saturday (1/31).
