Covington High School grapplers went 1-1 in a tri-meet hosted by Urbana. Covington bested Oakwood 36-29, but dropped their dual to Urbana 22-42.
Junior, Logan Brown went 2-0 at 215 lbs. Logan posted an impressive 9-2 win in a very physical match against Nick Hess from Urbana. Logan remains undefeated at 16-0 on the season, despite wrestling above his normal 189 lb. weight class.
Ryan Vanderhorst also went 2-0 with a 42-second pin against his Oakwood opponent at 160 lbs, then won a 9-1 major decision against Urbana at 152 lbs.
Freshman, Justin McMillion also finished 2-0 at 135 lbs, with one pin.
At 112 lbs., Jordan Tebbe received a forfeit against Oakwood. Jordan was wrestling even with a 3-3 score in the second period against a tough Urbana opponent but was injured and unable to continue and had to default the match.
Covington had a host of grapplers that also finished 1-1. They included Kyle Chalmers, Jake Wise, Bobby Wiltshire, Logan Hall, Brian Ely with one pin, and Ryan White with one pin.
CJ Potter wrestled very well but ended up 0-2.
First year wrestler (and Japanese exchange student) Ienobu Kaneko finished 0-2 while showing sings of improvement.
The Buccs are back in action Friday as they host at tri-meet against Tri-County North and Troy.
