Covington’s high school wrestling team traveled to dual Eaton on Tuesday night in a matchup that has proven extremely competitive over the years. The Buccs managed to come out on top with a 39-27 victory over the well-coached Eagles to improve their dual meet record to 18-4.

Starting at 160 lbs., Dylan Burns gave the Buccs a great start with an 8-4 decision over district qualifier Zach Smith, followed by Bryce Smith’s exciting pin over Remington Asher at 170 lbs. Gavin McReynolds (182) then pushed the Buccs lead to 15-0 with a pin over Nick Imhoff.

Eaton then bounced back and tied the team score, 15-15, with pins by Holden Sittloh (195) and district qualifier Seth Bowman (285) over Jesse Fisher and Clayton Stephan, and a 6-0 decision by Skyler Straiszheim (220) over Dylan Staudt.

The Buccs would then reel off four wins to lead, 36-15, as Kellan Anderson (113) received a forfeit, Cael Vanderhorst (120) pinned district qualifier Owen Hewitt, Riley Richards (132) pinned Dominic Isaacs, and Connor Sindelir (138) pinned Jaelynn Trantanella.

Eaton made things interesting as their state runner-up Wade Moneybrake (138) pinned Austin Flick, and their next wrestler, KeAnthony Bales (145) pinned Jensen Wagoner to narrow the score to 36-27, before Covington’s Keringten Martin won the final match with a 5-2 decision over Chris Weadick. Gavin Swank (152) picked up a pin in JV action for the Buccs.
