2019-20: BUCCS DOUBLE UP MIAMI EAST

Covington traveled to Miami East for a pair of duals on Wednesday night and finished victorious in both. The Buccs’ High School team won 48-24 to improve their dual meet record to 8-1, while Covington’s Jr. High team won 45-36 to stand at 1-1 this season.

Covington and Miami East went back and forth in the first six matches of the high school dual as Dalton Bishop (106) won by forfeit for the Buccs before Cooper Shore pinned Brian Morrison (113). Covington’s Cael Vanderhorst (120) earned a pin over Chance Rust before East responded with a pin by Max Shore over Aaron Jackson (126). Kellan Anderson (132) then picked up an 11-2 major decision over Garrett Kowalak, then Miami East responded with a 5-3 victory by David Davis over Austin Flick (138) to cut Covington’s lead to 15-14.

The Buccs would then string together five straight wins to put the dual out of reach. Connor Sindelir (145) pinned Coleman Demmitt, Deacon Shields (152) earned a 15-0 technical fall over Mike Sherer, David Robinson (160) won 10-4 over Ethan Ott, Trentin Alexander (170) pinned Dylan Williams, and Bryce Smith (182) won by forfeit. Miami East’s Jarrett Winner then won a 9-7 overtime decision over Duncan Cooper (182) and Dustin Winner pinned Dylan Staudt (220), before Covington’s Jesse Fisher (285) won the final bout by pinning Jayden Skeeby.

Winning for Covington’s Jr. High team were Carson Taylor (80), Kacyn Hall (86), Michael Hagan (98), Jericho Quinter (104, pin), Kaden Thompson (110), Chase Vanderhorst (116), A.J. Garman (122), Aveyen Meek (128, pin) and Izaiah Sherman (150, pin). Winning for Miami East were Daniel Martin (128), Layton Hughes (134), Megan Rose (142), Hunter Randall (160), Drake Bennett (172) and Levi Glassmeyer (285).

Covington’s high school team travels to the the Versailles dual meet tournament while the Jr. High competes in the Sidney Invitational this Saturday, December 21.
