2019-20: BUCCS REACH REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

Covington advanced to the Regional Semifinals with a first round bye, and a 43-34 victory over Clermont Northeastern, who defeated Greenon 57-23. The Buccs then dropped a 36-27 dual to Miami East that came down to the final match. Miami East advanced to the semifinals with a 42-27 victory over Troy Christian, but lost to Brookville in the finals.

The Buccs stormed out to a 43-10 lead versus Clermont Northeastern after the first ten weight classes, which clinched the victory. Covington then forfeited the last 4 bouts in preparation for the next round. Winning for the Buccs were Cael Vanderhorst (120, pin), Banks Koffer (126, pin), Kellan Anderson (132,18-2 tech. fall), Connor Sindelir (138, 13-0 major decision), Austin Flick (145, pin), Deacon Shields (152, pin), Jensen Wagoner (160) and Trentin Alexander (170, 10-0 major decision). Dalton Bishop (106) and Brian Morrison (113) also wrestled well for the Buccs.

Miami East got an early 18-0 lead on Covington, as Cooper Shore (106), Chance Rust (113) and Max Shore (120) picked up wins by pin over Dalton Bishop, Brian Morrison and Banks Koffer, before Cael Vanderhorst (126) picked up a pin for the Buccs at 126 lbs. Kellan Anderson (132) then dropped a close 6-4 decision to David Davis, and Connor Sindelir (145) dropped a close 9-8 decision to Coleman Demmitt, which extended the Vikings lead to 24-6.

The Buccs would then get on a roll as Austin Flick (145) earned an 8-4 decision over Daniel Davis and Deacon Shields (152) picked up a pin over Mike Sherer. Covington then picked up two more victories as Jensen Wagoner (160) won a 5-0 decision over Ethan Ott, and Trentin Alexander (170) pinned Dylan Williams to tie the score, 24-24.

Miami East’s Jarrett Winner then won a close 2-1 decision over Duncan Cooper (182) and a 5-0 victory by Dustin Winner over Jesse Fisher to regain the lead.

Dylan Staudt (220) then put the dual into striking distance for the Buccs with a 3-0 win over Dustin Skeebey, before Miami East’s Cael Rose clinched the victory for Miami East with a pin over Scott Blumenstock (285)

Covington travels to Greenville on Wednesday, February 12, for a high school and jr. high dual versus Greenville.
