JANUARY 7, 2015 – COVINGTON
Covington hosted a night of great wrestling on Wednesday with Miami East, Troy and Tri-County North. The Buccs opened with a 58-12 victory over Troy, while Miami East defeated Tri-County North, 45-27. This set up an exciting back-and-forth final between with Buccs and Vikings, with Covington prevailing 46-30. Troy defeated Tri-County North, 43-36, in the consolation finals.
Ben Miller (195) got the Buccs started off in the finals with a pin over Miami East’s Caden Hellyer. Daniel Everett (220) tied things back up with a pin over Covington’s Seth Thomas. Miami East then gained the lead as Ben Ferguson (285) received a forfeit.
The Vikings would then reel off 3 more victories for a 24-6 lead, with an exciting overtime decision by Graham Shore (106) over Connor Ryan, a forfeit received by Alex Isbrandt (113), and a 6-2 victory by Zane Strubler (120) over Coleman Ryan.
Jared Ford (126) started a big six-victory turn-around for the Buccs with a pin over Trey Rush, followed by a Jarred Ganger (132) pin over Andrew Harmon and a victory by forfeit for Ryan Ford (138). Covington’s Deron White (145) earned a 14-6 major decision over Matthew Amheiser, followed by a Lance Miller (152) pin over Colton Kowalak and a forfeit received by Gage DeHart (160), for a 40-24 lead. The next two matches would split as Miami East’s Mack Rose (170) earned a pin over Brandon Magee and Covington’s Bo Swank (182) received a forfeit.
Going 2-0 for the Buccs were Jared Ford (126), Jarred Ganger (132), Ryan Ford (138), Deron White (145), Lance Miller (152), Gage DeHart (160), Bo Swank (182) and Ben Miller (195). Going 2-0 for Miami East were Graham Shore (106), Alex Isbrandt (113), Zane Strubler (120), Mack Rose (170), Daniel Everett (220) and Ben Ferguson (285).
Also winning for Covington were Josh Sowers (145), Joey Schmelzer (145) and Levi Brown (160). Competing well for the Buccs were Alexis Roth (106), Levi Winn (126), Mark Barga (145), Logan Fields (152) and Ross Bowman (152).
The Buccs are back in action on January 19th as they host Arcanum, Lehman and Milton-Union in another dual meet.
