TRIAD – Covington freshman wrestler Chloe Aselage won the 140 pound weight class championship at the Triad High School Girls Invitational on Sunday.

Aselage was the only wrestler from Covington who was able to compete in the tournament and she showcased her overall toughness by capturing all three victories by pins.

In her first match against Gabby Phillips from Elgin, Aselage controlled a comfortable 17-1 lead in the third period and closed out the match with six points on a pin in 5:48 to eliminate a technical fall victory that would have tallied five points.

Aselage advanced to the finals with an impressive comeback victory against Addie Anderson from Ben Logan. Anderson built an 11-8 lead, but Chloe Aselage responded with a pin in 3:56 – just four seconds left in the second period.

Chloe Aselage closed out the tournament with a dominating victory in the finals against Elena Fairall from Westerville-North as she built a 10-0 lead and recorded a pin 41 seconds into the second period.

Overall, Chloe accumulated 20 team points for Covington to finish eighth out of 25 teams in the team standings.
