If you weren’t in the gymnasium at Covington on Wednesday you missed out on some very good wrestling as the Buccaneer high school and junior high teams hosted Allen East and Sidney in dual matches.
Each team brought high caliber wrestlers to the mat making for many extremely exciting and intense matches in the four hours of wrestling.
When the dust settled, Covington’s high school team defeated Sidney, 45-30, and lost to Allen East, 46-30, to move their overall dual meet record to 13-3. Covington’s Jr. High team won both duals, defeating Sidney, 54-24, and Allen East, 48-36, to improve their dual meet record to 3-1.
Going 2-0 for the high school were Cael Vanderhorst (120, pin), Kellan Anderson (126, pin) and Trentin Alexander (182). Jensen Wagoner (160) went 1-0. Going 1-1 were Dalton Bishop (106), Brian Morrison (113), Austin Flick (138), Connor Sindelir (145), Bryce Smith (170, pin), Corey Turner (195) and Jesse Fisher (220).
In JV action, Banks Koffer (120), Kaden Hughes (138), Caleb Miller (145), David Robinson (152), Trey Kiser (160) and Dylan Staudt (220) all won by pin.
For the Buccaneer Jr. High, Carson Taylor (80, 2 pins), Kacyn Hall (86, pin), Michael Hagan (92, 2 pins), Jack Blumenstock (104, pin), Jericho Quinter (110, 2 pins), Chase Vanderhorst (116, 2 pins) and Aveyen Meek (128, pin) all went 2-0, while A.J. Garman (122), Colt Basye (134) and Izaiah Sherman (150) went 1-0.
Kaden Thompson (110) and Jesse Harrison (116) won by pin in exhibition matches.
The high school schedule resumes next Wednesday with the junior varsity wrestlers heading to Vandalia Butler for a JV Pool Tournament and the varsity traveling to Springfield on Thursday the 16th.
