BUCCANEERS DEFEAT SIDNEY AND SPRINGFIELD IN DUALS

COVINGTON – In the first wrestling event this season in the home gymnasium, the Covington Buccaneers showcased exciting execution by defeating Sidney and Springfield in duals.

The Buccaneers started off with a dominating 56-18 victory over Springfield with 12 of the points surrendered were due to two forfeits. Covington only suffered one loss in a match against Springfield and won 10 of the 11 in the contest.

Covington then defeated Sidney 60-15 by winning eight out of the ten matches. Covington forfeited two matches at 106 and 285 pounds, while Sidney forfeited three matches at 106, 113 and 138 pounds.

At the varsity level Covington won 18 out of the 21 matches.

The Buccaneer wrestlers who went 2-0 were Brody Taylor, Henry Skaggs (1 pin), Weston Roth, Gavin Brown (1 pin), Liam Geeding (1 pin), Caleb Ryman (2 pins), Diego Lopez (2 pins), Gibson Leach (1 pin) and Trenton Havenar (2 pins). Eddie Deaton and Gibson Leach both won one match while Brody Taylor captured two forfeits and Christian Clark and Gibson Leach got one forfeit each.

In the extra matches outside of the duals, the Buccaneers finished 2-5 with the wins captured by two freshmen, Wyatt Kerber and Grayson Feight.

The Buccaneers have nine days to prepare for a very competitive tournament at Lima Central Catholic on January 30th and 31st.
