FIVE BUCCS PLACE AT COLDWATER INVITATIONAL

COLDWATER – The Covington Buccaneers had a solid performance as a team on Saturday at the Coldwater Invitational as five wrestlers placed in the tournament and the team finished 8th out of 22 teams.

The five Buccaneers who placed were Trenton Havenar (215 lbs.), Caleb Ryman (157 lbs), Weston Roth (138 lbs.), Henry Skaggs (126 lbs.), and Liam Geeding (150 lbs.).

Trenton Havenar placed second in the 215 pound weight class as he went 3-0 to reach the finals. He came up short of computing the championship match in a tough 7-3 loss to Brody Adams from Central Catholic. Havenar’s three wins were 10-3 over Maddix Vermillion from Liberty-Benton, a 14-3 major decision victory over Braylin Freels-Aller from Bluffton and 6-5 over Bailey Jendrzejak from Woodmore.

Caleb Ryman finished third in the 157 pound weight class that was loaded with so much talent. Ryman opened up with four straight wins with two straight pins over Bode Clapsaddle from Ben Logan and Camden Gable from SJOH, followed up by an 18-1 technical fall over Griffin Kottenbrock from Ottawa-Glandorf and a 1:16 pin over Gavin Herrig from Woodmore. He then dropped a very close 6-4 match to Tyler Lavin from Indiana Cathedral, but won his final match with a 16-0 technical fall against Solomon Snyder from McNicholas.

Buccaneer freshman Weston Roth had a great performance by finishing 5th place at 138 pounds by going 5-1 throughout the entire day. Roth won his first match with a 17-0 technical fall victory over Cameron Bradley from Coldwater, but dropped his second match against the eventual champion, Wyatt Thieroff from Woodmore. Roth then won four straight matches to close out the day with three pins over Roman Martin from Van Wert, Hunter Beasley from Bluffton and Wyatt Beair from Indian Lake and also a 16-0 technical fall win over Caleb Bockey from Delphos St. John’s.

Henry Skaggs and Liam Geeding both finished seventh place in their weight classes as both of them went 3-2 throughout the day. The three wins by Skaggs were pins over Alex Coldren from Liberty-Benton, Evan Suever from Delphos St. John’s, and Owen LaPorte from Bowling Green. The victories by Geeding were two pins against Eli Carpenter from Ben Logan and Zaelen May from Troy, plus a 15-6 major decision over Beau Heniser from Indiana Cathedral.

Five more Buccaneers – Christian Clark (132 lbs.), Jonny Miller (144 lbs.), Diego Lopez (165 lbs.), Landon Beeman (175 lbs.) and A.J. Reyes (190 lbs.) came up short from placing in the tournament, but mostly wrestled well against stiff competition. The winning matches for the Buccs were Christian Clark (132), Jonny Miller (144), Diego Lopez (165, 1 pin) and Landon Beeman (175, 2 pins).

Covington’s JV traveled to the Versailles JV invitational where they placed 4th out of 15 teams with 4 placers.

Day’Lynn Garrett (165) and Gibson Leach (175) led the way for the Buccs with 1st place finishes. Garrett went 5-0 with 4 pins, while Gibson won a 3-way tie-breaker with a 3-1 record, by virtue of his 3 pins.

Grayson Feight (144) finished in second place, dropping a close 11-9 decision in the finals. Feight went 3-1 overall with 3 pins.

Cutler Robbins (157) finished in 3rd place with a 4-2 record with 2 pins. Haydan Wintrow also won for the Buccs.

Covington competes next at the Versailles Duals on Saturday, December 20.
