The Buccaneers enter their 2004-05 campaign with excitement and enthusiasm. With a greater overall experience level than last year’s team that finished with a 13-13 dual meet record, the Buccs have higher expectations this season. Covington’s got their work cut out for them, however, as they face an ambitious and challenging schedule.
Returning state qualifier Logan Brown heads a strong junior class that includes Brian Ely, C.J. Potter, Jordan Tebbe, Ryan Vanderhorst, Ritchie Watkins and Bobby Wiltshire. Tebbe, Watkins and Wiltshire are returning sectional placers. Also returning is sophomore Ryan White. New to the team are junior Lenobu Kaneko, sophomore Kyle Chalmers and freshmen Jacob Wise and Logan Hall, a junior-high state-placer.
The Buccs will compete against some of the best teams in the state, across all divisions, to better prepare for sectionals, districts and state. Covington travels to a number of challenging tournaments, including the GMVWA Holiday tournament which was added to the schedule this season. In all, over half of the Buccs’ competition will come from Division 1 and Division 2 schools.
The Buccs have a number of home contests this season, including duals and tri meets with Troy, Tri-County North, Versailles, Dayton Christian and Twin Valley South. Additionally, the sectional tournament will once again be held at Covington High School.
Please come out and support the Buccs as we look forward to a successful season!
